First published in 1845, the novel "Queen Margot" by Alexandre Dumas the Father (1802-1870) was the first part of his trilogy dealing with the Huguenot Wars. The main character of the novel is the daughter of King Henry II of France and Catherine de Medici. The image of Margot created by Dumas does not always coincide with his prototype - the real Margarita de Valois, but the novel is read in one breath. The text is given in translation by E. N. Lyubimova. The publication is illustrated by drawings by two French artists of the 19th century: Auguste-Hilaire Eugene Lampsonius and Dieudonne Auguste Lancelot.
