The monograph examines one of the key problems in the history of Western Europe - the transition from antiquity to the Middle Ages and its significance for the fate of European culture. Analyzing the works and activities of the largest philosopher of that time, Severin Boethius, a brilliant writer, creator of Vivarius, an outstanding statesman Flavius ​ ​ Cassiodor, as well as the enlightener and scientist Isidore of Seville, the author shows the influence of these figures on the subsequent development of European culture.
