This edition presents the philosophical work of V. F. Bulgakov "In Dispute with Tolstoy: On the Scales of Life," written in 1932-1964, the author's full correspondence with L. N. Tolstoy and S. A. Tolstoy and letters from Canadian Dukhobors to V. F. Bulgakov. A significant part of this unique material (except for the letters of L. N. Tolstoy and S. A. Tolstoy to Bulgakov) is published for the first time. Of particular interest is Bulgakov's long-term polemic with Tolstoy, aggravated during his expulsion from Russia in 1923 to Prague, as well as upon his return to the Soviet Union in 1948 and his stay in Yasnaya Polyana until his death in 1966.
