The book discusses the stability of slopes, sides of excavations, stress distribution at the base of structures and their bearing capacity, lateral soil pressure on pipes, etc. Methods of artificial soil compaction, exploration of the base by drilling and penetration are described. Instructions are given on the selection of the most appropriate methods for justifying structures in relation to local natural conditions. Attention is paid to the development of pits, pile and caisson foundations, lowering wells, retaining walls, lintels, embankments and tunnels, as well as the construction of earthen dams.
