The novelty and main value of Albert Sobul's work lies primarily in the fact that he showed the sans-culottes of the revolutionary capital of France in the decisive years - during the Jacobin dictatorship - with such completeness, as comprehensively as none of his predecessors has so far succeeded. Sobul showed the people - ordinary people of Paris, sans-culottes, a faithful stronghold of the revolution - not in generalized characteristics, not in large strokes, as was done sometimes before, not only in critical critical critical days, when heroic courage, revolutionary impulse came to the fore (and this is also shown in his book), but also in everyday works and worries, in his everyday heroics.
