The book contains theoretical and experimental studies of the types of caterpillar engagement known in the tractor industry and their possible design options in terms of the ratios of the caterpillar pitch and wheel pitch, the location of the engagement and the shape of the profile surfaces, the acting forces and their equilibrium on the engagement arc; theory of construction of profile engagement surfaces is described.
