The monograph is the first study in Russian science on the creation of an imperial monument in Russia when compared with a similar process in Western Europe, primarily in Germany and Italy. In the Russian monumental sculpture of its heyday of the 1880-1900s, a unique image of the Orthodox emperor was created, inspired by the newly discovered Byzantine tradition.
