Andre Mauroy, a classic of French literature of the 20th century, the author of the famous romanized biographies of Dumas, Balzac, Victor Hugo, Shelley and Byron, is considered a true master of psychological prose. However, a significant part of the writer's heritage is historical works. In The History of England, written in 1937 and first translated into Russian, Mauroy brilliantly managed to create a surprisingly lively and emotional portrait of the country, over many centuries, from the Neolithic to the present day, carefully preserving and cultivating its traditions and national pride.
