Tobolsk was founded by Cossack Danila Chulkov in 1587 on the site of a Tatar settlement. The city is considered the ancestor of all Siberian cities. Due to its location on the route of the Trans-Siberian Railway, Tobolsk became the administrative center of all Siberia.
