The book is devoted to the problem of the relationship and mutual influence of Buddhism and Shinto in the VI-VIII centuries. Syncretism of the two religions is considered both at the level of official annals and in the field of folk beliefs. The main typological characteristics of Buddhism and Shinto are distinguished, their contribution to the process of formation of Japanese culture is assessed.
