The emotional, luminous, original work of Ge stands apart in Russian art of the XIX century. This artist still impresses the audience with a lively pulsation of thought and feeling. All those who wrote about him noted the discrepancy between his creative development and the main stages of the evolution of painting in the second half of the 19th century. In the late 1850s - 1860s, he developed the traditions of romanticism, especially the art of Karl Bryullov and Orest Kiprensky.
