Soldiers led by Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky came to Moscow from Nizhny Novgorod at the end of February 1612. After a series of bloody battles in early September 1612, most of Moscow and adjacent territories were liberated. On November 4, Kitay-Gorod was stormed. This marked the complete victory of the second militia, which expelled Polish interventionists from Moscow.
