The main task of the book, according to Father Pavel Florensky, "was to establish the greatest importance of the cult (sacraments, worship, rites) for Orthodoxy. To the church cult and to its basis and center - the Divine Eucharist - all the shrines of Christian life, thought and work go back. From the cult comes everything that is then reconciled in culture: philosophy, science, forms of the public, art. The cult (and its basis is the sacrament of communion) is the sacred and only basis for living thought, creativity, and the public. Therefore, those theological systems that evade recognition of the central significance of the sacraments, worship and sacred symbols-rites for the Church, life and philosophy threaten Orthodoxy."
