The monograph is the first undertaken study of the determining influence of spiritual life and the tasks of cultural construction on the literature of the largest Old Believer center in Russia. Based on the study of documentary material and the extensive handwritten heritage of the Vygo-Lexinsky hostel, the initial history of the settlement is restored, an analysis of the main activities of the Vygov scribes in organizing the cultural and church life of the monastery is given.
