This book is the first experience of a strictly scientific lexicographic description of the special vocabulary of Russian icon painters. The main part of the book is occupied by a dictionary that includes more than 700 terms (vohra, ark, vermilion, inoculum, wringing, etc.). The appendices consider the history of the names of two red colors - bakan and varzia. The book is addressed to art historians, philologists, culturologists and everyone interested in icon painting, language, history and culture of Russia.
