Walter Gropius is one of the most famous architects of our time. His name is on a par with names such as Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe. The head of the world-famous Bauhaus school, associated with the minimalist style in architecture, he believed that "each subject should fully meet its goal, that is, fulfill its practical functions, be convenient, cheap and beautiful." Unable to find a common language with the Nazis, Gropius left his native Germany, but remained in demand: he built academic campuses for Harvard and Baghdad universities, and very successfully taught at several prestigious educational institutions. The work of Gropius had and has a huge impact on many architects.
