After spending a whole year (1908-1909) in the virgin jungle of the Amazon, Thomas Whiffen, a member of the Royal Geographical Society, a member of the Royal Anthropological Society, published in 1915 the book "A Year Among Cannibals. Northwest Amazonia," which replenished the gold fund of travel literature and research. Along with abundant factual material and subtle observations of the world of animals and plants, the author creates many vivid paintings of the rainforest, describes the life of the Indian tribes he met: their life, culture, languages, belief system, features of interaction with each other and white people. More than a hundred years have passed since Whiffen returned from a trip through the region between the Issa and Japura rivers, but the book he wrote is still of great interest and scientific value to the widest range of readers. Like amber, she absorbed and forever preserved for us the memory of the almost disappeared Amazonian tribes.
