Volume 2 examines the Scandinavian colonization of the Northwest, its nature, and the impact on the Slavic population living here. Early medieval agricultural culture and funerary traditions that are closely related to each other are analyzed. The focus is on the Russian large kurganysopki Povolkhovya and their Scandinavian prototypes. As a comparative material, collections prepared by I. I. Eremeev for publication from excavations of large mounds of Central Sweden of the VI-IX centuries, which, according to the author, are prototypes of Novgorod hills, are presented.
