The little neighborhood of Big Rock is an upper-middle-class neighborhood. A gated community in the late 70's. The kinda of place people move to expecting peace, order, and a refined community. That's what Nelson Cartwright moved there with his wife Joyce and their daughter Rachel. Yet there is a disturbance in the peace when Mr. Rawling moves in across the street. He is unlike anything that is common in Big Rock. Not because he's tall and built like a Greek statue but because he's African American. Nelson is outraged but Joyce finds herself drawn to the black stranger like a moth to the flame.
