In the book "Classical Liberalism and the Future of Socio-Economic Policy," the author offers a comprehensive defense of the principles of classical liberalism. In doing so, he connects the economic arguments that are usually made in favor of the socio-economic policies of classical liberalism, limited government, and open markets with moral and ethical arguments that are also relevant to institutional arguments. This connection is provided by the concept of "robust political economy" - we need robust (stable) political institutions that can withstand the pressures and tensions created by the weaknesses of human nature. The book considers two of them: - the problem of limited rationality (people are not omniscient and they have to act in conditions of uncertainty) - the problem of incentives (in some situations, people tend to act opportunistically, so institutions are required that discipline a potentially opportunistic agent).
