Injured but alive, Cyndric finds himself hurtling through space as part of the invasion fleet for the second war of conquest for the planet of Durga Devi. This time, the Grand Bigard will stop at nothing until the entire planet is under his control. The Hellan dictator claims it was once Hellan and will be again.Yet, contrary to what they were told by their government, as Cyndric and his comrades begin to land on the planet, they discover that the Durgan natives are fighting back. As an expendable pressed soldier, Cyndric is sent to hold the surrounded city of Ganshi, a far Hellan outpost on the planet. But with time, he starts questioning whether this war of conquest for Durga Devi is just - and whether he will make it out at all.
