The book is a collection of texts by the most prominent thinker of the twentieth century, Martin Heidegger, translated by the Russian philosopher V.V. Bibikhin (the third chapter of "Basic Concepts of Metaphysics" was translated by A.V. Akhutin). These works are formally and meaningfully united by a single heading - the old philosophical concept of "metaphysics." Metaphysics here is not just a science about the foundations and essence of existence. The very event of posing the metaphysical question "Why is there essence, and not vice versa, Nothing?" takes place in the center of existence as a whole, in human existence itself. In contrast to the surprise as the beginning of philosophy, which Plato and Aristotle spoke of, Heidegger points to the horror in which Nothing is, "when everything is gone from under your feet." Hence metaphysics is not a section of school philosophy, but something that belongs to the "nature of man." For students and everyone interested in modern philosophy.
