The Ptolemaic Library of Alexandria is the birthplace of European philology. The heads of it in the III-II centuries Zenodotus, Aristophanes and Aristarchus were primarily engaged in the textology of the Iliad and Odyssey. The purpose of this work is to answer the question of whether the Homeric hexameter metric was among the criteria by which Alexandrian philologists chose options or offered corrections to the text of the Iliad and Odyssey available to them. The first part of the book tells about what we know about Alexandrian textology in general. The book is intended for philologists, historians, culturologists and all people interested in antiquity and the history of philology.
