The book of the domestic medievalist, Professor A. G. Glebov, is dedicated to the life of King Alfred the Great (871-899) and England in his era. The time of Alfred's reign was key in the history of early medieval England, when the political future of the country was decided. Faced with the invasion of the Vikings, the strife of small Anglo-Saxon rulers, the decline of the economy and culture, Alfred emerged victorious from a long struggle, creating the conditions for the unification of England. In his book, A. G. Glebov gave a detailed analysis of Anglo-Saxon England during the reign of Alfred the Great, showing how the reforms and wars of this king led to the formation of one of the most powerful European states at the end of IX-X centuries.
