For a whole century in Russia there has been an ongoing struggle of the government against the growing revolutionary movement. And it is not surprising that it was Russia that gave the world that concrete example of provocation, which is destined to go down in history as a classic example of provocation in general. This example is the story of Evno Azef, one of the largest and most famous provocateurs in Russia and Western Europe. The book of the Russian historian Boris Ivanovich Nikolaevsky (1887-1966) tells about the unsurpassed provocateur Azef, who served in the secret police for more than 15 years and at the same time headed the Combat Organization of the Socialist Revolutionary Party for more than five years.
