Based on a wide range of sources, the book shows that during the years of Perestroika under the leadership of M.S. Gorbachev, the foreign policy of the USSR underwent radical changes. Its previous political, ideological and philosophical foundations were revised. A new political doctrine began to take shape, later called "new political thinking." One of the main strategic goals in Gorbachev's foreign policy was to overcome confrontation with the West, gradual rapprochement with it and integration into Western economic and financial structures. On the European continent, Gorbachev sought the construction of a "pan-European house."
