Analysis of a significant number of sources and a detailed study of factual material allowed Ilovaisky to deepen criticism of the "Norman theory," while developing his approach to the study of the events of ancient Russian history. Even during his lifetime, Ilovaysky's works were highly appreciated for their brilliant style and clarity of presentation, which made them an invaluable help in the educational process.
