The book "Why did we shoot at each other?" Is a previously unreleased collection of documentary materials in Russian regarding the events of World War II. The narrative is based on interviews by the German writer Heinrich Böll and the Soviet writer Lev Zinovievich Kopelev, conducted by correspondent Klaus Bednartz in September 1979 in Moscow and in April 1981 in Borheim-Merten.
