A detailed chapter on pollen morphology, preceding the description of pollen of representatives of 327 angiosperm families, gives great value to Erdtman's work. It describes the structural features of pollen grains and provides the main terms that the author uses when describing pollen. The main part of the book is made up of brief descriptions (diagnoses) of pollen, which have a very laconic but clear form. The text is accompanied by numerous drawings clarifying and explaining the descriptions of pollen grains of living plants (without their living contents). In the descriptions, a significant place is given to the pollen of tropical and subtropical plants. An important addition to the book is a detailed explanatory dictionary of morphological terms, placed at the end of the book, which provides information on the origin of the terms used, their use by various authors and their meaning.
