The textbook describes the psychological and legal mechanisms that contribute to the formation of a criminal subculture, its causes and purpose for the leaders of the criminal environment. The historical aspect of countering criminal traditions in places of deprivation of liberty was considered, measures for their prevention were proposed. This study is intended for practitioners engaged in educational activities in correctional institutions, teachers and students of law faculties of higher educational institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.
