The two-volume book reflects the six-century period of the history of the Ottoman Empire, from the formation of the Ottoman beylik in 1229 to the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey in 1923. The first volume tells about the political history of the Ottoman state, the organization of central and provincial power, the structure of society and the administrative structure of the empire. A detailed description of the Ottoman military organization, judicial legal system and economic life is given. The second volume gives a historical sketch of the development of the Ottoman-Turkish language, literature, art and architecture, tells about various aspects of intellectual life in the Ottoman Empire (including Arab provinces), examines religious life in the Ottoman state, the history of the formation of educational and scientific institutions.
