Blau's (sociology, U. of North Caroline, Chapel Hill) study centers around a cohort of American adolescents who began high school in 1990 and were in their mid-20s in 2000. Blau investigates features of white culture in the U.S. by studying differences between white and other adolescents in the contexts of their schools and neighborhoods. Her findings are organized around topics that are central in schooling and important in young people's lives attitudes about integrity and cheating, behavioral problems, interracial tensions, social and academic learning, and going to college. Blau concludes that American schools are continuing to perpetuate white advantage, which harms both white adolescents and adolescents of color.
