The intellectual community formed around the German poet Stefan Gheorghe (1868-1933) played a very important role in the history of ideas of the turn of the century and the first third of the 20th century. The impact of Gheorghe's Circle extends far beyond poetics or literature proper and affects history, pedagogy, philosophy, economics. A peculiar Georgian interpretation of politics joined the life-building project of an entire generation on the eve of the Nazi catastrophe. One of the key models of the Circle was the Platonic Academy, and Gheorghe himself was interpreted as "Plato Today." The Georgians devoted a number of books, articles, translations to Plato, designed to compete with university platonology. How did it react to this strange so non-academic academy? The monograph of M. Mayatsky, based on published and archival materials, is devoted to this aspect of the activities of the Circle of George and the analysis of its influence on the science of Plato.
