The journey of Tsarevich Nikolai (the future Emperor Nicholas II) to the East, which lasted from October 23, 1890 to August 4, 1891, was a unique event for Russian life at the end of the 19th century. The august traveler, getting to Vladivostok by sea, visited Egypt, India, Siam, China, Japan. The total length of the route traveled by the heir to the throne was more than 51,000 km, including 15,000 km by rail and 22,000 km by sea.
