The book deals primarily with the economic, political and social development of Japan over the past half century, with the greatest attention paid to assessments of Soviet-Japanese and Russian-Japanese relations. At the same time, the author paid special attention to issues related to the territorial dispute between the two countries, because it was precisely these issues that he had to deal with every now and then over the past decades both in Moscow and Tokyo.
