THOUGH almost in the heart of Mayfair Dennington Place was a backwater into which few except those who had business there penetrated It was a culdesac no more than fifty yards long leading off a narrow street terminating in the back wall of a tall block of flatsOn the left as one turned into Dennington Place was the packing department of Golding and Mansfield china and glass merchants The entrance to this was through a wide double doorway The premises were an extension of the back of the shop the front entrance to which was in Aspal Street running parallel to Dennington Place some distance away On the right was a garage with two sliding doors in which the delivery vans belonging to the firm were housed Above the garage were two sets of offices on the first and second floor respectively Access to the offices was gained through a doorway and up flights of stone steps At the end of the culdesac was the tradesmans entrance to the block of flats with a handoperated lift serving a back window of each
