Outlines the foundations of the intensively developing theory of polynomials orthogonal on discrete point systems. Asymptotic properties of such polynomials are considered, and the case of increasing the degree of the polynomial simultaneously with decreasing the grid pitch for classical orthogonal polynomials on uniform grids is being investigated for the first time.
