This is the most comprehensive study of the actions of the US Navy in World War II. Its author, Samuel Eliot Morison, is a well-known American historian and professor at Harvard University. Having received the support of US President F.D. Roosevelt, S.E. Morrison had access to any information, collected unique material and based on it created a fundamental fifteen-volume work. The Battle of the Atlantic volume covers all US Navy operations in a given theater from the North to the South Pole, as well as in the Caribbean and Barents Seas, the Gulf of Mexico from 1939 to mid-1942.
