The monograph is devoted to the theoretical and methodological study of the phenomenon of imagination as a problem of modern psychological science. The scientific novelty of research lies in the development of a methodological approach that combines a functional-system approach as a general scientific interdisciplinary methodology with a metacognitive approach that reflects the specific scientific level of research in psychology. The application of the proposed methodological approach to analyze the functioning mechanisms of the least studied verbal imagination made it possible to conclude that the verbal imagination in the process of constructing verbal images is a metacognitive process that performs control and integrating functions.
