Mythological and annalistic code "Annals of Japan" ("Nihon Shoki," 720) - the main monument of early Japanese literature. It is a kind of encyclopedia of ancient Japan, containing the richest data on mythology, history, ethnography and poetry. The first volume of this edition of the monument includes myths, traditions and chronicles of the first rulers of ancient Japan. The second volume includes legends, traditions and chronicles related to the reigns of Japanese sovereigns, ranging from Keitai (507-531) to Jito (686-697).
