The book, based on wide archival material from the collections of Russia (St. Petersburg, Moscow) and Ukraine (Kyiv), attempted to rethink the events that took place in Right-Bank Ukraine in the middle of the 18th century and eventually led to the Koliivshchyna (the Gaidamak uprising in 1768), provoked the Russian-Turkish war, the division of the Commonwealth and the redistribution of the political map of Europe. This was followed by the elimination of the Zaporizhzhya Sich and the autonomy of the Ukrainian Hetmanate.
