Results of complex researches on influence of compression plasma flows on structural phase state, elemental composition and microhardness of titanium surface layer are presented. Main directions of titanium properties modification are considered, including nitriding and alloying with metal atoms. Particular attention is paid to the mechanisms of interaction of plasma flows with the surface, the processes of heat and mass transfer in the surface layer and crystallization from the melt under ultrafast cooling conditions.
