This edition, dedicated to various aspects of Japanese written culture, is diverse and mosaic. Everything included in the book was written between 2008 and 2017. The first part of the book consists of author's articles on Japanese and Chinese writing ("calligraphy" shodoshufa), on some calligraphers, as well as translations from Japanese of selected articles and essays on the history of calligraphy, on understanding the phenomenon of writing by Japanese calligraphers and historians. The second part is fragments of the author's prose, balancing on the verge between fiction, a diary and an essay in the spirit of Japanese zuihitsu (lit. "after the brush"). The third part is represented by poems and translations from Japanese poetry with rare interspersed translations of prose. The choice of Japanese authors (Natsume Soseki, Tanizaki Junichiro, Akutagawa Ryunosuke, Dazai Osamu, Ibaragi Noriko and others) is dictated exclusively by personal affection and sympathy for them. The book contains rich illustrative material: first of all, these are works of Chinese and Japanese calligraphers, as well as drawings and photographs from the author's archive.
