The collection includes the most significant works of the outstanding Dutch historian and culturologist Johan Huizinga (1872-1945). Autumn of the Middle Ages - a poetic description of the sociocultural phenomenon of the late Middle Ages, a bright, rich encyclopedia of life, art, culture of Burgundy of the XIV-XV centuries. Homo ludens is a fundamental study of the game nature of culture, proclaiming the universality of the phenomenon of the game. In the essay Shadows of Tomorrow, The Darkened World, Man and Culture, the causes and consequences of the spiritual impoverishment of European civilization in the run-up to World War II are explored in depth and a prediction is given about the revival of culture in the post-war period. Three articles are devoted to philosophical and methodological issues of history and cultural studies, theoretical and moral approaches to culture. The author's artistic talents are demonstrated by an ironic series of drawings dedicated to "Russian history." The publication is equipped with an extensive scientific reference apparatus.
