The work of the outstanding Argentine psychoanalyst R. Horatio Etchegoen was first published in 1986 and has since acquired the status of a classic manual of psychoanalytic technique. The translation was made from a new, revised and supplemented edition of 1991, which withstood several reprints. The book systematically and comprehensively sets out the issues of the history and development of psychoanalytic technology, highlights the topics of the beginning of analysis, its development and completion, transfer and countertransfer, interpretation and reconstruction, insight, the psychoanalytic process and its vicissitudes: acting out, negative therapeutic reaction, reversible perspective and dead ends in analysis.
