The Soviet-German non-aggression treaty of 1939 is to a large extent the result of the purposeful activities of the leading employees of the German embassy in Moscow, frightened by Hitler's adventurism and aggressiveness, and above all Ambassador Schulenburg, who in 1944 became an active participant in the conspiracy against the Fuhrer. Fearing that Hitler's course would lead the country to death, they believed that with the conclusion of the pact, German foreign policy would return to the bosom of common sense.
