The new book of the historian Alla Krasko covers the period when the estate on the Fontanka was owned by Counts Sheremetev, representatives of one of the most ancient Russian clans. The presentation goes from owner to owner, but the heroes of the book are not the owners, but their employees, who ensured the life of the legendary Sheremetev Palace. For two centuries there have been many civil servants: architects, doctors, clergymen, musicians... Among them are many famous names: Professor A.P. Kunitsyn, Senator I.F. Aprelev, Prince F.M. Kasatkin-Rostovsky, architect Quarenghi... Among the serfs in the Fountain House were entire dynasties of rulers, office workers, personal servants... Archival documents preserve the memory of many servants of "the house of His Grace Count Sheremetev." The purpose of the book was to look closely at people from this world. The environment of serfs gave birth to great talents, leaders and outsiders, good and evil, opportunists and outcasts. Their fate is full of events and interesting no less than that of eminent contemporaries. Two centuries of the estate's life under the Sheremetev counts went back in time, but many archival documents have survived. For almost forty years, the author collected unique historical materials. There is not a single invented plot in the book, its basis is many thousands of documents from the Sheremetev archives, and the vast majority of facts are published today for the first time. The publication is addressed to local historians, historians and everyone who is interested in the past of the Northern capital.
