The famous Kyiv fiction writer and journalist G. N. Breitman was not without reason known as a connoisseur of the criminal class. His book "Underworld," published at the very beginning of the twentieth century, is a real small encyclopedia of criminal life, methods of "work" of criminals and thieves' jargon.
