"Girl with Peaches" and "Girl Illuminated by the Sun" made Serov famous. Perpetuating his name as an unsurpassed master of portrait painting, Serov left no less significant works in the genres of Russian landscape, graphics, book illustration, animal painting, historical and ancient painting. Quiet and modest by nature, Serov possessed indisputable authority among the masters of his time. And it is difficult even to name another artist of his era (with the exception of, perhaps, Levitan), whose legacy and creative achievements would be of such great importance and influence on all subsequent Russian art.
