A collective study of the culture of the Avant-garde of the last century in its connection with Semiotics, conducted by a group of authors and compilers led by Yu.S. Stepanov, covers a significant layer of phenomena of modern world culture and is of undoubted interest to a wide range of readers. Firstly, the range of regions represented is very wide: the process of the genesis of the Vanguard in Russia, France, Germany and the World War II is considered here. A significant part of the book is devoted to the tradition of deep semiotics in Russia, which developed in close contact with the Vanguard. Secondly, the understanding of the Vanguard has been expanded. It is considered not only as a direction in certain types of art, but also as a way of life, an image of thinking, an image of creativity. Thirdly, Avangard and Semiotics in the study are presented not statically, in frozen or ready-made forms, but in the process of formation (materials are taken from the most "hot" world Avangard - both the beginning of the century and the modern one).
